When you ask me what survival mode is, I would tell you it is what happens when so much of your energy goes toward staying safe that you may not realize how hard you are working just to make it through.
You may watch every movement, tone, or change in someone’s face because those small shifts once warned you about what might happen next.
You may look strong so no one comes too close, avoid conflict, keep people at a distance, leave gatherings early, or disconnect when being fully present feels like too much.
Survival mode does not always look afraid. Sometimes it looks calm, capable, and independent.
But underneath it, your mind and body are still trying to protect you.
There is nothing wrong with you. These were ways you learned to survive when safety did not feel certain.
