In recovery, I’ve learned something important: a few good memories don’t make a good relationship.
At the beginning, everything can feel rich, vibrant, and full of love. The memories are huge, life-changing, and unforgettable. But what matters isn’t just how it started—it’s how consistent it is throughout.
In my own past, the early chapters felt like a storybook, but as time went on, those moments faded. What remained was inconsistency and toxic behavior. The beauty was never steady—it was just flashes, not a foundation.
So don’t let one or two memories keep you holding on. Don’t keep wishing someone will “go back” to who they were at the start. See them for who they are right now, day after day.
Healthy relationships don’t rely on a handful of good memories to carry them—they are built on consistency, where the good is woven all the way through.
