During one of the hardest seasons of my life, I met someone who made me feel seen, heard, and valued. He was kind, supportive, and present when I needed it most. For a while, I believed we had built a deep connection.
But over time, I realized it wasn’t what I thought. What felt like closeness was actually something that kept me tethered—without real reciprocity. He blurred the lines between friendship and something more. He planned romantic outings and showered me with attention. He made me believe we were building something real. Then, he would remind me we were “just friends” when it suited him.
Looking back, I see how my vulnerability was used in ways that benefited him but left me confused and hurt. Emotional intimacy without honesty is not care—it’s control.
It took time to forgive myself for believing in something that was never meant to be real. But I’ve learned: real love, real care, is clear. It does not thrive in secrecy or blurred lines. It does not take comfort at the expense of someone else’s heart.
And I won’t settle for anything less again.
